UNITED WIN
Manchester United has defeated Southampton in a Premier League match played at Old Trafford on Thursday. United won the match by 2-1. This victory helped United in keeping its top position in the points table. United has now 59 points in 24 matches and it is still 7 points ahead of its arch rivals and defending champions Manchester City.
Manchester United didn’t have a good start and got down by 0-1 in the 3rd minute of the match. The goal came because of a mistake by Michael Carrick. He tried to pass the ball to the goalkeeper David De Gea, but, his placement was not perfect. The ball went to Jay Rodriguez. Rodriguez took advantage of that easy opportunity and sent the ball into the empty net to take the Saints ahead in the match.
However, United didn’t take much time in bouncing back. The score became 1-1 just after a few minutes. It was Wayne Rooney who opened the scoring for the Red Devils. Carrick passed the ball to Kagawa who flicked it wonderfully into Rooney’s way. The English striker controlled the ball and then, hit a powerful shot past the Southampton goalie to equalize the proceedings.
United got ahead by 2-1 in the 27th minute of the match. It was Robin Van Persie who whipped the ball in and Evra deflected it into the penalty area with a header. The ball went to Rooney and he latched on that opportunity. He tapped the ball into the net with ease.
The Saints were not able to score the equalizer in the rest of the time and United managed to win yet another Premier League match in the ongoing season.
United’s next match will be a Premier League clash against Fulham at the Craven Cottage on Saturday.
