Louis van Gaal has hinted that Manchester United may not go into the transfer market
Louis van Gaal has hinted that Manchester United may not go into the transfer market for a new signing, as he believes that Memphis Depay can accommodate into the striker’s position.
The 21-year-old was recently brought in from Dutch football £ 25 million. He is widely known as the winger, but van Gaal has revealed another dimension within the Dutchman. He says thatDepay has always shown the ability to learn as he goes in the game. This would allow him to become a striker in the future. Even though he is not the most physical player around,Depay can use his incredible pace to great advantage according to van Gaal.
The Dutchman was put forward the question of signing a replacement for Robin van Persie, who is believed to be on the verge of leaving the club for Fenerbahce. The Turkish club have reportedly agreed a £ 4.5 million deal for the 31-year-old. Only a few minor details regarding the contract are to be sorted and the player will be undergoing a medical in the next few days. Van Gaal, though, maintained that van Persie remains a Manchester United player until further confirmation. It is understood that van Persie is not happy with the assurances provided by van Gaal going into the new season.
“That’s not all true. But it (our transfer situation) is a question mark for me too, and I have to see how we solve this problem. When we feel that we can say he (Van Persie) has gone, you shall hear it from Manchester United. We don’t have the feeling yet. It’s [versatility] also one of the reasons we’ve bought Memphis. He’s played in the striker’s position also for the Dutch team. He learns very quickly and can play different positions, and he’s one of the best talents of his age,” said van Gaal.
