FULHAM JOIN LEEDS UNITED IN RACE FOR STRIKER LIKENED TO ROBIN VAN PERSIE
Leeds United can reportedly secure the services of PSV attacker Cody Gakpo for a discounted fee with Manchester United pulling out of the race. According to the Daily Mail, Fulham have shown an interest in signing the Dutch attacker along with Arsenal, Southampton, Everton and Nottingham Forest. Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett reported that a £21million bid for Gakpo was rejected with them looking for £25 million. Leeds needed to sign an attacker before the transfer deadline and rather for going for players like Hwang Hee-chan, they had the intentions to pursue Gakpo.
At that price range, he is certainly affordable and the fact that he’s only 23 means that he has a high resale value as well. The fact that clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing him suggests that he’s an attacker on the rise and it’ll be a massive coup if Leeds can sign him. It’s time for Victor Orta and Marsch to work on this move as it will not be hard to justify why they’re willing to shell out £25million to sign him.
However, with the summer transfer window now shut, Leeds United and every other club interested in signing Gakpo including Fulham will have the chance to go for him in the January winter transfer window. Gakpo himself revealed recently that until just a week ago, he had expected to join Manchester United but a move of that nature never materialized and the Red Devils instead signed Antony from Ajax.
